VARIOUS The always impressive Side One Dummy label teams with New Jersey’s Charged Records to present over thirty street / oi punk bands from the contemporary underground scene. As with any compilation this large, some of the bands and tracks are better than others. Overall, however, Punx Unite hits way more than it misses. Road dogs such as the Casualties and the Unseen offer up quality songs that we’ve come to expect, while relative newcomers such as the Briggs, Cheap Sex and Monster Squad earn high marks for their efforts. The main ingredient lacking is variety; after several dozen anthems about beer and fighting the system, some levity or even a ska-infused track would be a nice breath of fresh air. One of the most comprehensive and impressive street punk compilations in a long time, Punx Unite suffers only from too much of a good thing. JT More Reviews: |
